Bottle Inspection False Rejects and Missed Defects

A high reject count does not prove strong inspection, and a low reject count does not prove good production. Separate detector decisions from physical rejection. Use controlled, identified challenge samples and known-good samples through an approved test plan.

Follow the observed pattern

What you observe What to compare next
Known-good samples are rejected Compare defect category, image, presentation, lighting and material variation. Keep the good-sample denominator so the false-reject rate is interpretable.
A known defect is accepted Confirm the challenge sample identity, test route, enabled inspection recipe and decision log. Do not hide a missed defect by relaxing the sample definition afterward.
The decision is correct but the bottle remains Trace the same identified bottle from detection to removal and confirmation. Compare tracking, conveyor motion, reject availability and failure alarms with the integrator.

Evidence to send with a support request

Provide the challenge set definition, known-good controls, counts by category, inspection decisions, physical-reject confirmations, recipe revision and test speed. Keep intentionally defective samples controlled and reconcile their removal before releasing production.

Illustrative diagnostic comparison

If the camera flags every marked challenge but one reaches the accepted discharge, detection sensitivity is not the only issue. Investigate tracking and the rejection chain. A passing retest needs confirmed physical removal, not just a red indication on screen.

Confirm the next action

Record the bottle, cap and material lot; machine and format recipe; time, speed and operating state. Separate direct observations from suspected causes. Preserve an unchanged comparison and identify who approved any trial.

  1. Record the approved change, comparable before-and-after observations, defect counts with their denominators, and quality or maintenance approval. A symptom disappearing once does not establish a durable correction.
  2. Repeat the check during the operating state that originally produced the defect. Keep restart losses and rejected product in the record; a faster machine reading alone is not proof of improvement.

Use approved site procedures and the machine manual. Isolate energy before physical inspection or clearing a jam; never bypass guards or interlocks. Quality personnel decide containment and release of affected product. These guides do not prescribe universal pressure, temperature, torque or cleaning settings.

Required evidence — Bottled Water Fill-Level Inspection

Input or result / Unit Evidence to request Substitution to avoid
Known defective bottles tested (Quantity) Define the known defect types in the challenge set and record the number actually presented to the inspection station. Keep bottle identification and trial order. Prepared defective samples are not the same as samples successfully fed through the test boundary. Repeated presentations should be recorded rather than silently treated as different bottles.
Defective bottles missed (Quantity) Identify every known defective challenge bottle that was not correctly removed. Reconcile its detection, tracking and physical collection outcome. An inspection alarm is not proof of successful rejection. Keep a missed defect separate from a bottle that was detected but routed to the wrong place.
