Water Bottling Line Backup and Restore Acceptance Checklist

A folder named “backup” is not evidence that a water bottling line can recover its approved configuration. Ask the supplier to demonstrate the agreed recovery scope before handover. Separate possession of files from access rights, platform compatibility and the documented ability to use those files.

Define what must be recoverable

List the PLC, HMI, drives and other relevant control devices actually supplied. For each, identify the commissioned configuration and owner. Distinguish editable engineering projects, device backup images, recipes and parameter exports. Ask which items the proposed restore method includes, excludes or requires as a separate deliverable.

Create a usable backup register

For each package, record the device identity, file name, revision, capture date, file checksum and controlled storage location. Add the required engineering software, device firmware, licenses and authorized access arrangement. A checksum supports file-integrity comparison; it does not certify that the file is current, complete or usable on the target device.

Check the target and prerequisites

Have the supplier confirm the intended replacement device and the applicable manufacturer procedure. Resolve missing software, unsupported versions and access dependencies before scheduling the demonstration. An HMI image, an editable project and a recipe export serve different purposes; the presence of one does not establish the availability of the others.

Agree a controlled demonstration

Use a supplier-approved isolated test arrangement or another formally approved maintenance plan. Qualified personnel should retain the current commissioned configuration, define a rollback route and agree the test boundaries. Do not experiment with an unverified backup on operating production equipment. Record the environment actually used, including any difference from the installed line.

Collect evidence beyond a successful file transfer

The report should identify the restored revision and agreed checks of displays, communications, recipes and relevant parameters. Any functional checks must follow the approved test plan. Record unavailable functions and unresolved differences explicitly. Successful loading alone does not establish that production, quality or safety requirements have been met.

Close the handover and future revision process

Link each demonstrated package to the signed acceptance record and named custodian. Document access delivery securely, without putting passwords in the public report. After approved changes, issue a new register revision and decide whether recovery verification must be repeated. Keep open items with owners and due dates rather than marking an incomplete recovery scope accepted.

Evidence to capture

  • Device and approved configuration
  • File, revision and integrity record
  • Software, firmware and license needs
  • Controlled test environment
  • Demonstration result and open items
  • Custodian and update responsibility
